Reading Through the Lens of Faith

Have you been reading a book and it was recommended by a friend, or you saw it scrolling through one of the ten bookstagrammers you follow on IG, or even saw it featured at your local library? But while you were reading, you felt checked about what you were reading?

It's not your typical, swoon-worthy book that you would normally go for. It's more risque than you thought it would be and maybe there are some scenes that are too graphic for your liking. *Raises Hand* I've been there, I know several people who have felt the same way. And you are at a crossroads, do you put the book down/throw it out or continue to read it?

Because the WORLD will say, "It's just a book, it's not a big deal. So what, you're only going to read it once..." But the WORD says, "Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise." Philippians 4:8

Reading is another way our lives are influenced. How are the books you are reading influencing your life? I pose this question focusing on fiction books. It's easy to get entranced in a story that has dynamic characters and the conversation is dripping with those cliff hanger moments, or even everyone you know is reading this, so of course you need to read it too.

I saw all of that because I had an amazing opportunity to sit down with a friend and have a deeper conversation about this subject: READING THROUGH THE LENS OF FAITH.

It's definitely great when you can recognize how to filter your life through a biblical worldview. BUT it's even better when you can have a full blown conversation about how God has a made a difference in your life. That life-change has transferred over into the books you read and that has made a difference in your perspective of how you read books. This is encouraging because it brings us closer to God - which is what we want, daily!

So without further ado, here is the podcast link to our conversation from my new podcast, The Bookish Believer - I thought it would be more fun to listen to us than reading a 5,000 word script!

I know you will enjoy the conversation - because that is what it is. Two friends talking about topics they both enjoy - Jesus & Books!
