Who doesn’t love gifts? I'm a huge fan of receiving gifts BUT I also love to give gifts…and if you’re a reader or you have bookish friends, these are some of the TOP 10 GIFTS to give and WHY they are so great. I have a few personal favorites and maybe you do too. If you have a gift idea that isn't on this list, comment below! Sharing is caring 🙂 #staybookish
No. 1: Scented Candle - Who doesn’t love candles? This is a relaxing gift and from personal experience inspires readers and writers alike to have the aromatic vibe of an old library, a rainy day - because we all know that’s the best day to read - or the environment of your favorite characters' home wafting in your space. I’m personally a fan of the Hobbit, so candles that remind me of Hobbiton are always a win.
2. Stickers - From books like Pride & Prejudice, have you seen the classic Mr. Darcy hand stretch…c’mon who doesn’t love it? Or the Bennett Stickers fawning over Mr. Bingley! Book or Characters stickers are fun and you can sticker just about anything you want. I’ve covered several of my water bottles so far.
3. Bookmarks - Store bought, homemade, found in nature? All bookmarks are great and they are a SIMPLE gift. Hardcore readers have at least 37 bookmarks, what is one more? And you can carry them just about everywhere…it’s always a win.
4. Tote Bags - For the girl who loves to carry her 9 library books…this is a must have. A wonderful woman gave me a tote bag with the Finding Sienna book cover on it and I take it to all my library appointments - those are typically on Mondays at 2 PM, because who doesn’t need an extra bag to go to the library?
5. Embossing Stamp - I don’t have one of these yet, but they look SO COOL. I think my favorite is from Etsy and it says: From the Personal Library with your name. That is a wonderful personalized gift…I would be embossing/stamping all of my books - yes, would it take me 18 weeks to do, yes. Would it be worth it? Of course!
PS: I don't know who Rebecca Watson is, but this is a beautiful stamp.
6. Coffee/Tea Mug - I love to drink both coffee and tea. I don’t know what it is about it, but sitting by the window in your favorite chair with a book…sometimes you get a little parched and you need a warm, smooth and aromatic tea or coffee to sip on. I don’t want to drink out of an ugly mug. I want a cute one with books on it - that tell no one else that is with me while I am in my world of reading how much I like to read based on the mug I’m drinking from. Isn't it every reader’s dream…
7. T-Shirt - Clothes are always a win and T-shirts are probably the best clothing item. You can dress it up, dress it down, wear it around the house, wear it out to show your level of love for books. It can be a shirt that has your favorite quote on it from your favorite book or a picture of your character like the 90s grunge look. T-shirts will NEVER go out of style and it’s a fun gift that any reader would enjoy….because it’s socially acceptable to wear clothes, everywhere, all the time.
8. Journal - I thought this would be an interesting gift idea for readers who are also active note takers or writers. I used to have an app that tracked what books I read, now I just keep a google sheet - my administrative brain kicks in - but hey, if you like to keep a journal to track your reading or your friend wants to track what they are reading - this is the gift for them. 9. Book Holder/Book Seat - This is such a fun gift idea, the book has its own chair to sit in while you’re not reading. One time a friend told me that if I keep the book open flat with the pages down, it can mess up the spine of the book. I have since always carried a bookmark with me so I don’t mess up the spine, but this is a great idea for people who are not book-mark people, it holds your place while you aren’t reading or you’re sleeping. I would definitely have one next to my bedside…
10. Bookends - Last but definitely not least…bookends - I have a lot of books, I would say roughly 200? Give or take 1 or 2. There are days where I like to showcase some of the books that are my favorites to read. I had these beautiful antique bookends at one point, but do to a disastrous mold situation, they became unusable. ANYWHO. Bookends are a great gift and can really bring a shelf to life. I think I will go ahead and add this to my birthday list for this year - because I am in need of some new ones.
I love all these things and there currently being added to my birthday list as I write. If you have any bookish gift suggestions add them in the comments below! #happygifting
